Sedu’s Wild Side: Creating Punk and Gothic Looks
When looking for Punk and Gothic hairstyles to highlight in this article, I realized that there are so many different ways that Goths express themselves and their hair is no exception. There are almost as many hairstyles as there are individuals. The bottom line is that anything goes, from classic cuts spruced up with a little black and vibrant red hair color to over-the-top asymmetrical cuts and spikes. But one thing that is true about all Goth styles, they can all benefit from the Sedu ionic flat iron.
One thing that you rarely see is the curly-mopped Goth. But what can you do to style your hair in the individual straight ways that are most popular among Goths if you have naturally curly hair? The truth is that you can style your hair any way you like if you first straighten it with a Sedu flat iron.
After you have straightened your hair, you can begin individualizing your tresses with different partings, pig-tails and knots. One of my favorites is the Zulu knot. To craft this knot, all you have to do is take a 1” square section of hair and begin twisting it until it shrinks and knots up to the scalp. Pin into place and you’re done. For Goth looks, put a few of these in the front and leave the back hang straight and free. You can also weave ribbon or a small and thin metal chain into the knots to add interest.
For spiked looks, first spray your hair with a good spray. Then, take large 1” rectangular sections and straighten them straight out from the scalp. Spray with a freezing or spiking spray immediately to set. Once your entire head has been spiked, you can use your fingers to separate the sections and put the spikes into place. (Note: this works on hair lengths from 1” to 5” the best).
Another great Goth effect that you can get with the Sedu flat iron is fanned ends. If you like wearing your hair up, first pin it up and leave about an inch or two of the ends free. Straighten the ends with the Sedu and fan them out before spraying them with a freezing spray.
